BMW 3-Series Safety

When you're looking for a new luxury car, of course you want one that's as safe as possible. That's just one of the aspects about the BMW 3 Series we love the most: their safety features and ratings.

The BMW 3 Series has a ton to offer drivers in Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx with its agile handling, spacious cabin, intuitive infotainment system, and powerful engine options. Still, cruising around the city calls for reassured safety features and ratings and that's where the BMW really excels.

We've taken the safety aspects of the BMW 3 Series and put them all right here in this review for you to check out. You can find their government-tested crash ratings along with all of your options if you want to understand how safe the 3 Series truly is.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Testing

The 2017 BMW 3 Series got the highest rating of "Good" for roof strength, rear crash protection, side impact, head restraints and seats, small overlap front, and moderate overlap front tests from the IIHS, naming it a 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+.

In terms of the optional safety equipment available for front crash prevention, it received an "Advanced" score in this area. The headlights received a score of "Acceptable" because of the availability of optional adaptive headlights with automatic high beams. Whichever options you decide to go with, you'll be in good hands (or should we say, seats?) with the BMW 3 Series.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Testing

The NHTSA is another safety test you'll want to check out when looking for your next vehicle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration consists of a series of tests to investigate how a vehicle would handle a crash from all angles. Especially when driving through the city, you'll want to ensure you're covered all over!

Like the IIHS ratings, the 2017 BMW 3 Series Safety scores from the NHTSA are also impressive with a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating and five stars each for rollover and side crash protection. So, you can be less stressed for your family's safety if an accident should occur.

Optional Safety Equipment

If you want to make your BMW 3 Series as safe as possible, you might want to consider adding some of the available optional features. Options like the rearview camera and surround-view camera will give you an extra set of eyes when trying to fit into tight parking spots-and no one knows this better than NYC drivers!

Front and rear parking sensors, Blind Spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control all serve as your personal driving assistant, so your BMW will have your back in any unforeseen situation.

These features can help prevent accidents before they happen, and most come together in the Driver Assistance Plus package. Although these features don't come standard, the 3 Series has more available safety features than other luxury vehicles in its class, keeping you and your loved ones safe while on the road.
