Exterior Dimensions and Maneuverability

When you're looking to purchase a luxury small car, there are few things more important than how easy your vehicle is to maneuver around the city and how many friends you can comfortably pack into your vehicle. The 2017 BMW 3 Series and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class are very competitive, but here's one point at which they significantly differ.

Let's start with looking at the vehicles' exterior dimensions:

  • The wheelbase of the BMW is 110.6 inches versus 111.8 inches in the Mercedes-Benz.
  •
  • The overall length of the BMW is 182.5 inches versus 184.5 inches in the Mercedes-Benz.
  •
  • The overall height of the BMW is 56.3 inches versus 55.3 inches in the Mercedes-Benz.

What do these numbers mean? Basically, they mean that the BMW is smaller in length, but taller than the Mercedes-Benz small luxury car. So, you'll have more headroom in the BMW 3 Series and more maneuverability on tight city roads than you might in its competitor.

Passenger Capacity and Amenities

BMW 3 SERIES VS MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASSAt this point, you might assume that the larger dimensions of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is due to the vehicle's increased interior volume. But in fact, that's not the case at all. The C-Class offers seating for just three passengers, whereas the 2017 BMW 3 Series offers seating for up to five passengers. In the BMW, you'll get an incredible 13 cubic feet of trunk volume for storage, and only 10.5 cubic feet in the C-Class.

Another major point of difference between the two vehicles is whether you'd want to volunteer for the morning carpool with one over the other. While the BMW 3 Series offers plenty of amenities to keep all your passengers comfortable, like rear air conditioning, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is sorely lacking in such features, including that exact feature. The vehicle is also missing out on standard fog lights, which could spell disaster in the often rainy and foggy parts of Queens, Manhattan, and Bronx.
