While BMW's M brand is the in-house skunkworks, M Performance focuses on the aesthetics of your BMW, be it a full M, an M Sport model, or none of the above. They call it "Performance Style" and prove that looking fast is just as important as being fast.

Over the weekend of our first Gasoline & Caffeine of 2017 (Sunday June 18th, our second one is planned for October), we were loaned an Austin Yellow 2017 M3 Competition, outfitted with nearly every part for the M3 from the M Performance Parts catalog. This was the same car on display at the 2017 New York International Autoshow only a few months prior.

Cosmetically, this car was (and still is; it will be making its way around to various events nationwide) stunning. The Austin Yellow paint pops, providing stark contrast with the M Performance Sport Stripes in the traditional BMW M Colors of blue, purple, and red. The carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser and rear trunk spoiler added subtle flair - up close, the quality of the carbon fiber weave is second to none. Staying on the outside, the M Performance full titanium exhaust is not just visually appealing, with its carbon fiber tips, but also audibly so. Put the M3 into Sport Plus (pre-programmed to the M2 button on the steering wheel from the factory), and the flaps within the exhaust open, providing a level of snap, crackle and pop not heard since you put your ear to a bowl of Rice Krispies. It will put a huge grin on your face.

Speaking of the steering wheel, this M3 is equipped with the M Performance Steering wheel III. It is trimmed in leather and Alcantara, with a blue leather center stripe and gloss carbon fiber spokes. It is thicker, has a slight D-shape, giving it and the car a proper motorsports feel. The carbon fiber theme extends to the center console and dash board. The M Performance center armrest is trimmmed in Alcantara, stitched in M-colored thread, and sits atop more carbon fiber.
