2018 BMW X3 Review
Regarded as one of the best vehicles in the lineup, the 2018 BMW X3 is a luxury crossover that combines sedan-like handling with the capability, space, and features expected of a sport-utility vehicle.
Drivers in Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens can find out more about this impressive crossover with our BMW review.
The 2018 BMW X3 offers two engine variants. The base engine is a powerful 248-horsepower, 2.0L turbo-four that cycles power through a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. The optional engine is an incredible 355-horsepower, 2.0L turbo-six that’s also paired to the eight-speed automatic. All models are standard with all-wheel drive.
Both engines are enjoyable, but the turbo-six achieves peak torque at remarkably low RPM and remains consistent through the range. It has the road manners of a sport sedan, though the advanced all-wheel drive system maintains its composure and traction in the worst road conditions.
Interior Space and Comfort
For the new model year, the BMW X3 gained some inches on its wheelbase to expand its already spacious interior. The front bucket seats have well-padded backs and bases with supportive bolstering and an adjustable lumbar pad. They’re also power-adjustable with high-quality, synthetic leather upholstery for improved comfort.
One of the best aspects of the X3 interior is the headspace. There’s enough room for taller passengers to sit comfortably, and the ample legroom allows them to stretch their legs. The rear seat has similar space, and it can easily accommodate three adults.
Cargo and storage space is designed very well. There are multiple bottle holders, a deep, wide console, a charging tray for bigger smartphones, and folding rear seats that open up to 62.7 ft3 of cargo space. No obstructions, a durable floor, cargo management rails, and a hidden storage bin in the floor ensure that you have plenty of options to haul any cargo you may need.
The 2018 BMW X3 is well equipped at the base level with advanced features like a power tailgate, reclining rear seats, and Bluetooth® connectivity, but its appeal is in the options.
Whether you want entertainment, convenience, luxury, or performance, the X3 has an option for you. Features like the Harmon Kardon® sound system and the iDrive infotainment system with a 10.3-inch touchscreen ensure you’re always connected and entertained, while additions like the heated or cooled seats and advanced safety technologies keep you comfortable and secure.
The X3 also offers a dynamic handling package that includes adaptive dampers, M Sport brakes, performance control, and variable sport steering. These features can turn even the base model into a high-performance ride, without having to spring for the higher trim level.
