2019 BMW 7 Series vs Audi A8

The 2019 BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8 are two of the respective automakers largest sedans and feature powerful performance, upscale interiors, and an array of available technology. There are some differences to consider when deciding between them, however.

Drivers in Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens can learn more about these luxury sedans with our 2019 BMW 7 Series vs. Audi A8 comparison.

Both the BMW 7 Series and the A8 offer a variety of engine options. The 7 Series starts with a turbocharged 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine with 320 horsepower, but a turbocharged 4.4L V8 with 443 horsepower and a 6.6L turbocharged V12 with 601 horsepower are available. The A8 is available with a 3.0L turbo 6-cylinder with 340 horsepower, a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 with 460 horsepower.

The 7 Series not only offers the wider range of engines and the most powerful option, but it’s geared more for performance than the A8. Though both vehicles have remarkable speed and agility, the 7 Series is tuned for sport in every way, offering plenty of feedback and composure to combine the best of performance and luxury.

Both the BMW 7 Series and the A8 have well-appointed interiors loaded with features. Plush, high-quality upholstery makes the seats a dream for long drives, but passengers will enjoy the ample head- and legroom available in the 7 Series, which has one of the most spacious interiors in the class. Both vehicles have many optional features to enhance interior comfort, such as heated and ventilated seating, massaging seats, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

The aggressive styling of the new A8 rob it of some trunk space as well, which is already limited by the small trunk opening. With the 7 Series, you have plenty of trunk space to haul your luggage, shopping bags, golf clubs, or any other gear you may need.

BMW’s latest iDrive interface with a 10.2-inch infotainment screen, a center console knob and touchpad control, gesture controls, integrated navigation, in-car Wi-Fi, and wireless smartphone charging, a Harman Kardon® sound system, and an Apple CarPlay™ trial subscription. The A8 offers a touch-sensitive cockpit with screens and a few digital gauges, as well as navigation and infotainment services, though it doesn’t have the same usability or features as the 7 Series. You also need to move up to a higher trim level to get the MMI® infotainment interface.

The BMW 7 Series comes standard with Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian Detection and Low-Speed Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. The A8 comes standard with a rearview camera, but the rest of its advanced safety features require an upgrade.
