Seat and Headlight Safety

Starting out with its seats, you can expect a certain amount of safety design within each X5 model. For example, 3-point safety belts and head restraints for all seating positions come standard.

For small children, the model provides LATCH attachments (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) for child-restraint safety installation. The driver and passenger doors come with a central locking system, and if you forget to buckle up, the model will notify you audibly using an acoustic safety-belt warning.

The X5 also is designed with high-powered Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight, which illuminate the road and adjusts themselves depending on road conditions, incoming traffic, and vehicle speed. Paired with the model’s LED fog lamps, drivers will be able to see what’s ahead of them regardless of weather conditions.

Collision Safety

The model’s Active Protection System makes active preparations if it senses an approaching collision. This system thinks ahead for you and can lessen the impact for yourself and passengers. Some of these preparations include:

• Automatically pretensioning all safety belts
• Closing all windows and moonroof
• Activating post-crash braking

In case of collision, there is the front and rear Head Protection System (HPS) with side-impact airbags to prevent head injuries. The X5 also has a rollover sensor that activates airbags and safety belt pretensioners in case your vehicle rolls over in an accident.

To avoid small fender-benders, the model offers a Rear-view Camera and available Back-up Assistant as a part of the Parking Assistance Package. The package also includes parking specifics like View Cameras with 3D view and active Park Distance Control. Struggling to fit into tight city parking will be a thing of the past.

Meet Your Active Driving Assistant

Standard with all models, the Active Driving Assistant brings with it a suite of safety features that help as you drive. Some of these features include:

• Frontal Collision Warning
• Active Blind Spot Detection
• Lane Departure Warning
• Speed Limit Info

In order to get everything the X5 offers in safety, there is also the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package. This package has all the previously mentioned features while also adding Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant. Rush hour will never be the same once you have these features on your side.
