The 2021 5 Series: Next Level

The 2021 LCI BMW 5 Series:
The Quintessential Luxury Sports Sedan Goes Next Level.

As with all of BMW’s LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) updates, the upgrades & adjustments to the 2021 BMW 5 Series are primarily cosmetic and technological. All of the improvements combine to enhance the driving experience.

Beginning on the outside, the 2021 5-series receives new, slimmer full LED headlights that are now standard. The active front grille is updated as well, featuring the new larger, joined kidney design. The front bumper also receives a design update for both the standard trim and the M Sport package.

Continuing to the rear, the 3-dimensional L-shaped taillights finally arrive on the 5-series. Combined with a distinct dark smoke trim, the new taillights project prominently, especially when paired with contrasting paint colors such as Alpine White, Mineral White Metallic or Glacier Silver Metallic. The rear bumper is also re-contoured.

There are several new wheel designs, including new 19” style 845M wheels for the M Sport package. If you select M Sport brakes, you now have the option of either vibrant red or classic blue brake caliper colors.

On the inside of the 2021 5-series, the most prominent change is the implementation of the 12.3” touchscreen for BMW iDrive. The system is now running 7th generation software (iDrive 7.0) and combines with Live Cockpit Pro (now standard) to provide a connected and driver-focused interior. New for 2021 is improved SensaTec, which is now perforated and available in Cognac for the first time. If you’re looking for a more cost-effective interior option, this is an excellent choice. Dakota and Merino leathers remain as luxurious upgrades.

Under the hood, the 2021 540i receives the latest improvements to the B58 TwinPower Turbo 6 cylinder engine which includes a new 48 volt mild hybrid system. This system provides smoother transitions with Engine Stop/Start, increased torque at highway speeds (think improved passing ability) and increased fuel economy overall. The remaining changes relate to technology. The 2021 5 Series receives the latest updates to BMW’s Driver Assistance systems and BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are now standard and are wireless connections.
