2020 Alpine White M8 Competition

Since the debut of the “G” platform on the BMW 7-series, BMW keeps hitting it out of the park with each new iteration of the “GKL” platform. The 8-series has been much of the same – a return to form from the perspective of many. The M8 and its Competition variant (again, a standalone model) have only been available for a bit more than one month, and the positive reviews keep pouring in. Everything from the perfectly weighted (in all modes) steering, to the pavement-churning 617hp, and continued improvements on “M Mode”, there is little the M8 Competition isn’t capable of. Especially when the Gran Coupe variant is on the horizon.

Until then, we’re enjoy the classic proportions of the Gran Touring coupe, with it’s muscular, modern interpretation of the Hoffmeister Kink, signature Alpine White paint and classic Sakhir Orange leather interior.

2020 Donnington Grey M5 Competition

The M5 is an icon. The long-standing quintessential sports saloon. Yes, saloon. When we say saloon, we sound more sophisticated. “Saloon” sounds more sophisticated than “sedan”…but its all an illusion. The M5 is a straight up hooligan. It’s just wearing one of those modern, stretched-fabric, athletic fitting suits. In Competition form, as is this fetching Donnington Grey example, that suit has an even more aggressive cut, accentuating the important features: An additional 17 horsepower (617 in total), a louder black-tipped exhaust, and a recalibrated suspension for those infrequent days at the racetrack. Better to have it and not need it…and all that jazz. A worthwhile dose of Carbon Fiber M Performance Parts (front splitters, rear spoiler, etc) are the equivalent to that contrasting tie that completes the ensemble, making you the reason for all that gossip.

2020 Alpine White M4 CS

We’re often asked what “CS” stands for. It stands for “Competition Sport.” And what does that mean, exactly? It is BMW’s interpretation of the point between “Competition” and “GTS,” the latter of course being its own acronym and fit for a later discussion. If GTS is the pinnacle of a road-going race car (think the M4 GTS and the E92 M3 GTS before it), and Competition is dollop of additional track-esque sensations, then “CS” does it’s best to bled the two perfectly.

The M4 CS borrows some of the GTS’s weight-savings regiment, with composite interior panels, less of a center console, fewer speakers and no Comfort Access. You have to press the unlock button on your remote. It keeps the rear seats (versus the GTS’s goldish-orange rollbar) but skips the water-injected engine additions. In lieu of water-injection and 503hp, the CS operates a different tune, chucking out 454hp…nearly 30hp more than the standard M4’s 425hp. Additionally, the CS comes equipped with BMW’s Style 763M M Performance wheels as standard, and this particular vehicle has the Carbon-ceramic brake option ticked. Cosmetically, the CS received the GTS’s carbon-reinforced-plastic vented hood, along with unique carbon fiber front splitter and deck spoiler.

2020 Black Sapphire M8 Coupe

If the Donnington Grey M5 Competition above is the unknown gregarious, I-need-to-be-the-center-of-attention guest at the wedding, then this triple-black M8 Coupe is the guest that is suave, sexy, sophisticated, and intentionally-disheveled. And yet, everyone gravitates to them. Their perceived distaste for attention draws you in, with an air of intrigue and the danger of the unknown. Gloss Black 20″ Style 810M wheels, Black Sapphire Metallic Paint and Black Merino Leather all complete a James Dean-esque persona. The carbon fiber double-bubble roof is the cigarette or the jacket tossed of his shoulder in seemingly every photo.

This M8 Coupe’s presence isn’t forced. It doesn’t have to be. It just…is.

2020 Donnington Grey X3M

The DRIVE need not end when utility is required. Like it’s tried-and-true big brother the X5M (the next-generation G-platform X5M has been seen tooling around Germany), the X3M brings stunning performance to a size, shape and category not seen before. Where the X5M rewrote the rules on what an SUV…ahem, SAV…is capable of on street and on track, the first-ever X3M adds another chapter.

This particular Donnington Grey X3M is poised and ready to take on that morning commute and the Concrete Jungle, yet eagerly awaits to unlead 473hp on the weekend’s festivities. With grippy summer performance tires wrapped around 21″ Style 765M wheels, consider BMW’s Motorsport heritage when you plan your weekend getaway.
