Powerful engines and sharp handling can be found in the 5 Series and the A6. The BMW 5 Series offers several engine options, from the 530i and its turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 248 horsepower to the M550i twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that produces 600 horsepower. There’s also a plug-in hybrid, the 530e, that creates 248 horsepower. The Audi A6 only comes with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Both the 5 Series and the A6 offer agility and a smooth ride, though the 5 Series has better steering feedback for a more confident ride. The 5 Series comes standard with rear-wheel drive and a Driving Dynamics Control system with three selectable driving modes, as well as an all-wheel drive upgrade and an adaptive suspension. The A6 comes with all-wheel drive standard, but none of the other handling upgrades are available.
The BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6 offer high-end cabins and upscale designs with spacious, comfortable seats. The 5 Series comes with synthetic leather upholstery and 16-way power-adjustable seats, though leather upholstery and 20-way power-adjustable seats, ventilation, heating, and massage features are available as upgrades. For cargo, the 5 Series features an expansive trunk with 18.7 cubic feet of space, which is one of the largest in the class. The A6 has a 13.7-cubic-foot trunk, one of the smallest in the class. Both vehicles have a split-folding rear seat and offer a hands-free power trunk lid.
Technology features are abundant in the 5 Series and the A6. The 5 Series includes a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a touchpad, a 12-speaker audio system, navigation, HD Radio™, and Apple CarPlay®. Satellite radio, gesture control, wireless charging, a Wi-Fi® hotspot, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a 16-speaker sound system are also available. The A6 comes with an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.6-inch touchscreen control panel beneath it, along with a 10-speaker sound system, Bluetooth® connectivity, satellite radio, HD Radio™, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and a voice-control navigation system. Premium audio, wireless device charging, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel are available as well.
Both the 5 Series and the A6 include a rearview camera, parking sensors, emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. They also offer a head-up display, rear cross-traffic alerts, a night vision camera with pedestrian detection, and other advanced safety features for more protection on the road.
