BMW X1 vs X3

The class of compact and subcompact SUVs has become very popular over the years. When these types of vehicles are crafted by a luxury car brand, it makes them even more special. BMW has two great options in this class in the forms of the BMW X1 and BMW X3, both of which incorporate impressive powertrain options, top-tier materials, and advanced standard and available technology, all in a versatile design.

To help you and all other Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens, NY, shoppers determine which model might be better for them, our team at BMW of Manhattan has created this quick comparison of the 2018 BMW X1 vs. the 2018 BMW X3.

2018 BMW X1 vs BMW X3: Performance Options

In terms of performance, the X1 and X3 offer something different to accommodate drivers of varying tastes. All X1 trim levels come standard with a 2.0L 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine that is paired with an automatic 8-speed transmission. This powertrain produces an impressive 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It also incorporates BMW’s award-winning High Precision Direct Injection technology to more effectively provide fuel to the engine, helping to manage an EPA-estimated 23 city and 32 highway MPG.

The 2018 X3 comes standard with the same 2.0L 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine, but it’s instead paired with an 8-speed steptronic Sport Automatic transmission. This powertrain is tuned a bit differently than the one in the X1 to generate a boosted 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The X3 offers an even more powerful performance option in the spicy M40i trim level. The trim’s 3.0L BMW M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine provides a saucy 355 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Plus, aside from the base trim, all other X3 trim levels come standard with the brand’s signature Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, xDrive.

2018 X1 vs X3: Interior Space

Comfortability and versatility are important when purchasing a compact or subcompact SUV. The 2018 X1 offers drivers 58.7 cubic feet of cargo space when the versatile 40/20/40 rear split-folding seats are down. With all that cargo space in your subcompact SUV, getting supplies for your weekend DIY project will be a breeze.

The 2018 X3 offers more cargo space with 62.7 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded down-just in case you have a lot of luggage to tote for a road trip. The X1, however, does offer more room for your passengers to sit comfortably in the second row with 39.4 inches of headroom and 37 inches of legroom as compared to the 38.5 inches of headroom and 36.4 inches of legroom offered in the X3.
