BMW X3 MPG

BMW X3 in the CityWhen you start your search for the BMW X3, you’ll come across four discrete models. Across each four, you can look forward to a unique fuel economy, so you can pick the one that best suits your driving style. Here’s how efficiency turns out by model:

  • X3 sDrive30i: EPA-estimated 23 city/29 highway MPG*
  • X3 xDrive30i: EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG*
  • X3 M40i: EPA-estimated 21 city/26 highway MPG*
  • X3 M: EPA-estimated 15 city/20 highway MPG*

Much of the variation in the 2022 X3 fuel efficiency comes as a result of their different performance features. From engines to drive modes and everything in between, each BMW X3 model has something different to bring to the table.

BMW X3 Engine Specs

The xDrive30i and sDrive30i models share a 2.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine. Similarly, the X3 M40i and M models come with significant power from the 3.0L BMW M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine.

The 2.0L engine showcases plenty of power. With 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, this engine packs a legitimate punch as you accelerate. You can take that a step further, however, with the 3.0L turbocharged engine. For the M40i model, you’ll have 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque by your side. Then, with the M model, you can enjoy the most power from the X3 in the form of 473 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque.

As you can see, with more power comes a slight reduction in fuel efficiency. Still, however, with the xDrive30i and sDrive30i—which see the best X3 fuel efficiency ratings—you’ll still have plenty of kick behind each press of the pedal.

Additional X3 Performance Features

BMW X3 in the NeighborhoodYour car’s transmission can often have a significant impact on its fuel efficiency. That doesn’t play much of a role with the BMW X3, as each model utilizes an 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission. There is one slight upgrade to be had, however, with the M model.

While each of the other three X3 models features both Sport and Manual shift modes—as well as steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and Launch Control—the M model features all of that plus a Drivelogic mode. This feature allows the drive far more customization over their transmission shifts.

Additionally, there’s so much more to look forward to out of the BMW X3 driving experience. From a standard automatic start-stop function to standard brake energy regeneration, the 2022 X3 provides an incredibly smart drive that’ll ultimately help boost fuel efficiency. It also comes with standard driving dynamics control to help make your drive even more customizable through ECO PRO, COMFORT, and SPORT driving modes.
