BMW X5 vs Lexus RX

If you’re in the market for your next luxury SUV, odds are you’ve come across the BMW X5 and  Lexus RX. And with so many great features in both, how will you know which one is best for your drives around Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx?

Our team at BMW of Manhattan has all the research you need right here in this vehicle comparison, so that you can decide for yourself which ride is better suited to your lifestyle. Let’s get started by checking out the interior design of the X5 and RX.

BMW X5 vs Lexus RX: Get Comfortable in Manhattan Traffic

We’re not being facetious here-we literally mean you can sit in traffic comfortably when you’re in the X5 and the RX. With high-quality, soft touch materials, including leather upholstery and wood trim in the X5, you won’t mind spending some extra time in these cabins.

Plus, with plenty of passenger space, even your backseat riders won’t be complaining. Both vehicles offer at least 36.6 inches of legroom, so even your tallest riders will be good to stretch out on longer drives.

When it comes to cargo space, the X5 takes the lead here. With 35.8 ft³ of space behind the backseat, you’ll have no problems loading up the kids’ sports gear or extra luggage bags; unfortunately, the RX falls significantly behind here, offering only 18.4 ft³ of space.

BMW X5 vs Lexus RX: Power & Performance

We have to give the BMW X5 the win for this category, as well. With five different turbocharged options, the X5 offers immense power for your drives. For example, the base engine starts at a 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder that produces 300 horsepower.

The RX lags here, with only one engine option: a 3.5L V6 that puts out 295 horsepower. It’s still not a bad choice, but not as powerful as the X5’s base engine. In terms of fuel economy, the X5 offers an EPA-estimated 23 city/29 highway MPG, while the RX again follows, with an EPA-estimated 20 city/27 highway MPG.

BMW X5 vs Lexus RX: Staying Connected

When you opt for a luxury vehicle, we’re sure you’re looking for the latest in  of technology features. Luckily, both the X5 and RX come standard with easy-to-use infotainment systems-via a 10.2-inch display in the X5, and an 8-inch display in the RX.

The X5 also offers a Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay™, to keep your devices connected easily while on the road. Unfortunately, the RX does not have this option, so you’ll need to utilize just the infotainment system.

BMW X5 vs Lexus RX: The Results

Although both the BMW X5 and Lexus RX are great options when choosing your next luxury SUV, with the X5’s awesome interior and cargo space, engine options, and technology features, we’d have to choose this one for a test drive.
